Puzzle Games Built For The Commute

September 30, 2026 · Lukas Brenner

A good commute puzzle has to do one thing above all: let you stop instantly without losing progress. Nothing's worse than a level you can't pause when your stop arrives.

We look for games that save state automatically and don't punish you for a short session. Slotoro fits this well, but so do plenty of quieter tile and logic games we've been playing lately.

The other thing that matters is difficulty curve. A commute game should ease you in and then keep offering just enough of a step up that you stay curious. Too gentle and you drift off; too spiky and you give up on a crowded train.

My tip is to keep two puzzle games installed at once, one relaxing and one more demanding. That way you can match the game to your mood and how much brainpower you've got left after work.
