Making Strategy Games Work On A Phone
Strategy games and small touchscreens seem like a bad match, but a few have cracked it. The good ones rethink their interface rather than just shrinking a PC layout.
Ironhold Dominion is a solid case study. It's a chunky empire builder, but it groups its controls so you rarely need to hunt through menus mid-battle. That kind of thoughtful layout is what separates a playable phone strategy game from a frustrating one.
What I'd watch out for is tiny buttons and cramped maps. If a game expects surgeon-level precision from your thumb, it's going to wear you down on a long session. Pinch-to-zoom that actually works is worth a lot here.
The payoff, when a strategy game gets the controls right, is huge. You get proper depth in a form you can play anywhere, offline, without a mouse in sight. Those are the ones we hold onto.
